The original Roses & Lilies back had to be aligned with the front which made this extra step necessary, and in the later Pam A this was immediately changed to a different back design, one which they didn't have to worry about alignment. It is certainly using an original scan (Kaplan owns two out of five known copies of this 1909 version) because it retains the flaked off colouring due to the texture of the original card stock itself which interestingly is two layers glued together in the 1909 original, since the printing of the front and the back was done separately. The centennial deck is in fact the only deck among the 13 that uses the 1909 imagery (other than the borderless, of course) which is the very first version of RWS, so arguably in terms of historical reproduction that one carries the most weight. WikiĪt least let me talk about the centennial deck, and let me discuss the criticisms of it, since it is common to see praises, but I like to present new information.
